When you go online, you use a program called a “browser” (like Google’s Chrome, Apple’s Safari or Microsoft’s Edge). Most websites and emails store a string of information or text in the browser – and that is called a “cookie.” So cookies are small pieces of information stored on your computer that are linked to your browser. Your browser provides the cookie to the website each time you re-visit it.
